Event Details

  • Date:

Celebrate **Wetlands Appreciation Week** with Nature Nova Scotia and the Bird Friendly Halifax Coalition!

Join us for **Bird Friendly Iced Coffee and Shorebirding** at Rainbow Haven Beach Provincial Park, one of Nova Scotia’s beautiful coastal wetlands.

**Date:** Friday, August 14
**Time:** 6:00–7:00 PM
**Meeting Location:** Second parking lot at Rainbow Haven Beach Provincial Park: https://maps.app.goo.gl/UtzKp66u7VYmbewS8

We’ll enjoy some bird-friendly iced coffee before heading out for a short walk to some of Rainbow Haven’s best shorebird viewing spots. The first birds are often just a few minutes from the trailhead, making this a perfect outing for beginners and experienced birders alike.

Coastal wetlands like Rainbow Haven provide critical habitat for thousands of migrating shorebirds. During August, species such as Semipalmated Sandpipers, Least Sandpipers, and Short-billed Dowitchers stop here to rest and refuel before continuing their incredible journeys south. Join us to learn more about these amazing birds and the importance of protecting the wetlands they depend on.

A few things to keep in mind:
• Bring your binoculars if you have them (we’ll have a few to share).
• Parking lots can fill up quickly on summer Friday evenings, so please arrive a little early to give yourself time to park.

We hope to see you there!
