Take the Plover Pledge

Piping plover adult, by Mathew Schwartz
Shorebirds have declined in Canada by over 40% since the 1970s, according to the latest State of Canada’s Birds Report. Habitat loss and disturbance at breeding and nesting sites are to blame, with beach environments particularly impacted by human activities.

But we can make a difference! Take the Plover Pledge!

Show us a photo of you, you and Fido, or the whole family doing at least one shorebird stewardship action and we’ll send you a package of birdy goodies. AND! Every photo submission gives you an entry into our draw for the Shorebird Steward Grand Prize, a selection of gift cards and accessories allowing you to plan your own South Shore birding vacation.

  • Staying on the wet sand, not on the dry sand
  • Keeping beach-going dogs on a leash
  • Picking up beach litter
  • Reporting bird sightings to eBird
  • Completing any of the duties of your volunteer role with Birds Canada and their Piping Plover program
