1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Come and explore the globally rare ecosystem in our midst! Between Herring Cove Road and Purcells Cove Road is a vast, wild area called The Backlands. Here lies the fascinating Jack Pine/Broom Crowberry ecosystem, which contains many specially adapted species that have evolved to withstand repeated fires. Our on field trip we will see several of these species in their fall glory, and will learn about the efforts by multiple groups to save this area.
Please send a quick email to Karen at ynchalifax at yncns dot com if you plan to attend. Meet at a patch of land about halfway along Mica Crescent that doesn’t have a house on it… instead, it has a big lawn and an entrance to the Backlands (see map, or view in Google Maps with satelitte imagery on).
