1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Hi Nature Guardians!
For our December outing, we are going to hike the first loop of the Bluff Wilderness Trail! It’s about a 6 km loop. I recently took a great Map and Compass Navigation course and learned or relearned some really helpful exercises on reading topo maps and using a compass, as well as compass and map to determine or check where I am in the woods. We actually went to the Bluff Trail for some of the practical exercises in the course, but didn’t really get to go in on the trail and do more in-depth things. So, I thought we could get one last inspiring hike in before the snow comes and do some basic map and compass familiarity work together!
We will meet at 1pm Sunday December 10 at the parking lot (not the trailhead- there is a short walk on the rail trail in between the two) and we return to the parking lot by 4pm. The civic address of the parking lot is 2890 St. Margaret’s Bay Road.
To be prepared, you should bring/wear:
- water bottle
- warm clothing layers, hat and gloves if its actually winter weather
- hiking boots with 2 pairs of socks for warmth and blister protection
- whistle if you have one
- flashlight/headlamp if you have one
- rain jacket and rain pants if the weather looks iffy
Some of those items it’s just good to get in the habit of always having with you on a longer hike. :)
Here is the website for the trail so you can read up about its history and other details. https://wrweo.ca/wp/the-bluff-trail/
As usual, friends/new folks are welcome, and let me know if you can come!
